Debra Stacy Bell - Welcome To My Online Portfolio

My professional goal is to maintain a position that combines my passion for following current events and my ability to quickly, clearly and accurately report the news. I currently work as a news producer with Washingtonpost.Newsweek Interactive (WPNI), a subsidiary of The Washington Post Company that manages the official Web sites for The Washington Post, Newsweek and Slate.

I, along with a team of editors and producers, make decisions about what events to feature on the homepage and section front pages of washingtonpost.com. The team's goal is to bring the pages of The Washington Post to readers' computer screens. I help decide the placement of stories on the homepage and also write headlines and blurbs to package stories so users can easily find what they're looking for. I add links that direct users to relevant photo galleries, videos and other interactive content in order to create an informative and interactive news package.

Washingtonpost.com recently won the prestigious EPpy Award for Best Overall Newspaper-Affiliated Internet Service with over one million unique monthly visitors. This year, the Web site is also nominated for a Digital Edge Award for Best Overall News Site (Circulation More Than 250,000). The site was honored with this award in 2006. The Washington Post also won four Pulitzer Prizes last year. I am truly honored to be a part of such a well-respected team of journalists.

Before I started at WPNI, I worked for Comcast, the nation's top Broadband Internet Service Provider. I was an editor with the company's news portal , which is visited by about eight million users each day. I covered many major events for the portal, including the Terri Schiavo right-to-die debate, the July 2005 terrorist attacks in London, the record-breaking 2005 hurricane season, and the Supreme Court confirmation hearings of John G. Roberts and Samuel Alito.
